The Las Tunas Cattle Co ranch, owned by Miguel Guerrero Elías from Chihuahua, was awarded the AQHA International Best Remuda Award for producing one of the best genetics in the world. This recognition places Chihuahua on the international map for its work in breeding Quarter Horses, one of the most iconic and versatile breeds in the world.

Las Tunas Cattle Co makes history as the first ranch in Mexico to receive this award granted by the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA), joining past recognized ranches from Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay. This award recognizes the winning ranch as a leader in equine livestock worldwide.

In an interview with El Heraldo de Chihuahua, Miguel Guerrero Elías emphasized that this award recognizes the best breeders internationally. This year, the competition included 80 ranches worldwide that apply the best breeding and training techniques, thus driving continuous improvement in the industry. “It is an honor to receive such a prestigious award. For Chihuahua, it means that we are at the forefront with innovative livestock farming and strong genetics.”

The award was presented during the AQHA Convention in Las Vegas, highlighting efforts to maintain and improve the breed’s genetic quality. The winners are recognized for producing horses with superior characteristics that meet AQHA standards.

The rancher emphasized that the work is demanding but worthwhile because the award acknowledges the quality breeding in the state of Chihuahua. “We are doing things right, and that allows us to compete with the best genetics in the world,” said Miguel Guerrero.

The AQHA International Best Remuda Award is a mark of quality that enhances reputation and attracts the attention of breeders, buyers, and Quarter Horse enthusiasts.

In this way, Las Tunas Cattle Co becomes an example of best practices in horse care and management.

The businessman mentioned that Chihuahua has distinguished itself as one of the best livestock producers since it is one of the state’s primary economic activities. One of the challenges ahead is to continue working, as this recognition opens new opportunities for equine reproduction, competitions, and events where the best Quarter Horse genetics produced in Mexico’s largest state can continue to be promoted.

Miguel Guerrero stated that being recognized by the United States, one of the most demanding countries, opens doors to new markets. “It is very important to pass on our love for the countryside and livestock to new generations so that the activity continues to grow.”

Recognizing the best ranches inspires new generations of breeders and enthusiasts to keep traditions alive and continue improving the breed.

He acknowledged that the climate impact in Chihuahua has been devastating, especially as the region faces the worst drought in the last 35 years, significantly reducing the cattle population due to the lack of pasture and the need to protect grazing lands from overgrazing.

Las Tunas Cattle Co is driving equine livestock towards a future of quality and sustainability.
